Bubbles Wine Bar 2024, Ashington, Northumberland
Painting Bubbles bar in Ashington was really nostalgic for me, it holds a legendary place in Ashington folklore. As teenagers, our group of friends would start the evening at the Central Bar for some rock and metal, then stagger the back lane to Bubbles and join the queue, freezing cold but happy.
I’ve captured the modern, quiet spirit of this iconic venue across a few autumnal afternoon painting sessions, I was also lucky to see and paint in the workman packing up for the day, I’m drawn to their moment of cooperation in service of getting home.
Would hang very well in a hallway, office, bedroom or living room.

Some trivia: Apparently Bubbles was venue to (Sources are sketchy and admittedly before they were famous): Fleetwood Mac, Sting, Brian Ferry, Billy Connolly, Arlo Guthrie, Alexis Korner, The Spinners, Alan Price set, Geordie, The Grounhogs, Jimmy Page, Jeff Beck, John Mayall, The Small Faces, Lindisfarne. No doubt Harmonic Default and the Illustrators played there too.
