I’m Lewis Dimmick, a visual Artist and Oil Painter, typically working from life in the North of England.
You may have met me painting in the wild, at a UK festival or have seen me appear on Sky Art’s Landscape Artist of the Year as a 2026 wildcard.
Transcript:
I love the challenge of it, drawing is hard, painting is hard
But the job of the artist is to take the complexity of a scene and to interpret it, to simplify
Then when I started painting outside, en plein air, I found that if I only painted what I could see, often it didn’t make for a good painting, because not every field IS interesting.
That’s the job of an artist, to filter through all the complexity of the world around us and to simplify
My name is Lewis Dimmick, I’m an artist based in the North East of England and I love documenting life, I’d say I’m a pretty committed people watcher and nature lover.
Oil paint is a gorgeous medium, I find that while I am a filter for reality, paint has opinions of it’s own, sometimes you negotiate, sometimes you argue.
You’ll know if I’ve lost the argument because I’ll wipe it out and start over.
